02 – Product Definition (What Is It?)
Acoustic Laminated Insulated Glass is a sealed insulating glass unit (IGU) in which at least one glazing lite is an acoustic laminated glass (tempered glass + acoustic PVB interlayer). The laminated lite provides viscoelastic sound damping—especially in the speech frequency band—while the argon-filled cavity and asymmetric pane construction add mass-air-mass isolation. The result is a single, high-performance acoustic glass unit that outperforms either a standalone laminate or a standard IGU on airborne sound control. It is the technical answer when a project specification calls for both acoustic privacy and thermal / condensation control in one glazed panel.

03 – Glass Structure
Representative build-up (typical premium pod wall):
6 mm Tempered Glass
↓
Acoustic PVB Interlayer (1.14 / 1.52 mm)
↓
6 mm Tempered Glass ← laminated lite
↓
16 mm Argon Cavity (warm-edge spacer + desiccant)
↓
8 mm Tempered Glass ← asymmetric monolithic lite
Alternative high-performance build-up:
6T + Acoustic PVB + 6T
↓
20Ar (Krypton optional)
↓
10T
Structural variables:
- Laminated lite: glass 5/6/8/10 mm + acoustic PVB 0.76/1.14/1.52 mm (+ SGP on request)
- Cavity: 12 / 16 / 20 mm; argon 90% standard, krypton on request
- Second lite: 6 / 8 / 10 mm tempered (asymmetric to defeat coincidence)
- Pane count: double-glazed IGU (standard); triple-glazed on project request
- Optional upgrades: Low-E coating on cavity face, Low-Iron glass, tinted, reflective
A CAD cross-section line drawing of the build-up is recommended here to visually separate this product from both the Laminated and Insulated standalone pages.

05 – Acoustic Performance
- STC: 47–52 (configuration dependent)
- Rw (EN ISO 717-1): up to 50 dB
- Performance advantage: The laminated lite damps vibration at the source (speech frequencies 500–4000 Hz) while the cavity + asymmetric lites add mass-air-mass isolation—delivering higher STC than either a plain laminate or a standard IGU of similar overall thickness.
- Coincidence control: Asymmetric construction shifts the coincidence dip away from the critical speech band.
- Test basis: ASTM E90 / E413, ISO 10140 series, EN 12758
- Documentation: 1/3-octave transmission loss curve and build-specific test report available in downloadable datasheet.
06 – Safety & Thermal Performance
Safety:
- Laminated lite retains fragments on breakage (EN 14449 / ANSI Z97.1)
- Tempered lites: 4–5× strength of annealed glass (EN 12150)
- Optional heat soak test (EN 14179-1) to minimize spontaneous breakage
- Acoustic PVB blocks up to 99% UV
- Thermal:
- U-value: 1.1–2.4 W/m²K (argon-filled, depending on coating and cavity)
- Optional Low-E coating for solar control and reduced HVAC load
- Suitable for climate-controlled office pods, meeting rooms, and interior acoustic partitions
