Laminated Insulated Curtain Wall Glass | Laminated Low‑E IGU for Safety, Acoustic & Blast‑Resistant Facades
Laminated Low‑E Insulating Glass Unit – The Engineered Solution for Safety, Acoustic, Blast & Hurricane‑Resistant Curtain Walls
Laminated insulated curtain wall glass is a high‑performance insulating glass unit (IGU) in which one or both glass panes are laminated with a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or SentryGlas® (SGP) interlayer, combined with a low‑emissivity coating and sealed cavity. This product merges the impact safety, acoustic damping, and post‑breakage retention of laminated glass with the thermal insulation and solar control of a Low‑E IGU.
Unlike standard tempered IGUs, laminated insulated curtain wall glass provides:
💡 Why laminate an IGU? Standard tempered IGUs shatter completely upon impact. Laminated insulated glass retains its structural integrity even when broken – essential for overhead glazing, ground‑floor storefronts, hurricane zones, blast‑rated buildings, and any application where human safety or asset protection is paramount.

In a standard tempered IGU, if one pane breaks, the entire lite shatters into small cubes and may fall out of the frame – creating a dangerous opening. In a laminated IGU, the interlayer holds broken glass in place, maintaining a barrier against weather, intruders, and debris.

In hurricane‑prone regions (Florida, Caribbean, Southeast Asia), building codes require glazing to withstand large‑missile impacts (4.5 kg timber at 15 m/s). Laminated insulated glass with a tempered outer lite and SGP inner layer meets these requirements without sacrificing thermal performance.
Both PVB and SGP interlayers block >99% of UV radiation (300–380 nm), protecting interior furnishings, artwork, and merchandise from fading.

Laminated insulated IGU is the mandatory specification for overhead glazing and the recommended specification for ground‑floor vision glass in public buildings.
Recommended specification:
For spandrel zones, the laminated IGU is used with ceramic frit on the outer lite. The interlayer adds an extra layer of safety for spandrel panels located above pedestrian areas.
Spandrel specification:
✅ Best practice: For projects requiring both safety and thermal performance, specify laminated insulated IGU for the entire facade – vision and spandrel – to maintain consistent appearance and performance.
Our jumbo production capability extends laminated insulated IGU to sizes rarely available in the industry.

Required Information:
Q1: What is laminated insulated curtain wall glass?
It is an IGU where one or both glass panes are laminated with a PVB or SGP interlayer, combined with a Low‑E coating and sealed cavity. It provides safety, acoustic, blast, and hurricane protection along with thermal insulation.
Q2: When must I use laminated insulated glass?
When required by code for overhead glazing (IBC 2405), for hurricane‑prone regions (Florida Building Code), for blast‑rated government buildings (GSA), or when acoustic targets exceed Rw 35 dB.
Q3: What is the difference between PVB and SGP?
PVB is standard for safety and acoustic. SGP (SentryGlas®) is 5x stronger, 100x stiffer, and used for blast, forced‑entry, and hurricane applications.
Q4: Can laminated insulated IGU be made in jumbo sizes?
Yes. Our jumbo line produces laminated IGU up to 3320 × 11400 mm.
Q5: Does laminating affect thermal performance?
No. The interlayer is placed on the room‑side of the glass, outside the sealed cavity. The Low‑E coating and gas fill remain unaffected.
Q6: What acoustic performance can I expect?
Standard PVB: ~36 dB Rw. Acoustic PVB: ~39 dB Rw. SGP: ~38 dB Rw. All represent a 3–6 dB improvement over non‑laminated IGU.
Q7: Is laminated insulated IGU hurricane‑rated?
Yes. With a tempered outer lite and SGP inner lite, it meets Miami‑Dade TAS 201/202/203 large‑missile impact and cyclic pressure tests.
Q8: What certifications do you provide?
ASTM E1996, ASTM E2190, EN 1279‑5, EN 356, IGCC, CE, ISO 9001, CCC, SGS. Blast testing per GSA and BS EN 13123 available on request.
Q9: What is the lead time?
Standard sizes: 5–7 weeks. Jumbo sizes: 7–9 weeks. SGP lamination adds 1–2 weeks.
Q10: Can I combine laminated IGU with spandrel glass?
Yes. Use ceramic frit on the outer lite. The laminated inner lite provides safety for spandrel panels above pedestrian areas.
